The Sun Does A U-Turn

The Sun has performed a U-turn in its attitudes towards homosexuals, it announced yesterday. After incidents involving the ‘outing’ of Peter Mandelson , and agricultural minister Nick Brown, the title’s editor David Yelland stated that the paper was “no longer in the business of destroying closet gays’ lives by exposing them as homosexuals”.

On Monday this week the front page of the Sun read ‘Are we run by a gay mafia?’, and the title has since backtracked after a furore over its homophobic tones.

Following an edition of BBC’s Newsnight in which Sun journalist Matthew Parris stated that Peter Mandelson was gay, Parris has been sacked from his job at the title.
