Mirror Group’s Live TV To Profit Next Year

The Mirror Group’s interim results released today show that in the last half year Live TV’s national revenue grew by 82%, and it is the fourth most watched pay channel in cable homes. The channel is expected to make a monthly operating profit by the end of 1999.

Pre-tax profit for the group was up by 11% to £49 million, and earnings per share also rose by 3% to 7.6pence.

Victor Blank, chairman of the group, commented: “These figures enable us to demonstrate the importance and now the success of the MIN acquisition [see Newsline]. It gives the Group a broader portfolio alongside our national titles, which have shown increased quality and robustness. With our other interests we are a more balanced media group.”
