Revamp Planned For Indy Second Section

Revamp Planned For Indy Second Section

The much-maligned Eye section of the Independent is about to be axed, probably in favour of a broadsheet supplement covering business and sport. Michael Crozier, who had designed the original Independent, is now back on board the paper after working for Independent Newspapers on various projects before it bought the title (subscribers see Independent Gets New Owner).

It is rumoured that Crozier’s involvement contributed to Rosie Boycott’s departure from the Independent on Friday (subscribers see Boycott Joins Express) because she had already been working on a new second section.

A spokesman for Independent Newspapers also told Newsline that there is no truth in the rumour that Jeff Randall, editor of the Sunday Business, would be replacing Boycott. He said Randall had never been approached about the job and “never would be.”

The spokesman went on to say that Independent Newspapers is keeping faith with the dual-editorship system, whereby there is one editor for the comments pages and one for the news pages. Andrew Marr will retain his position as editor of the comments section while an announcement regarding the replacement of Boycott is expected in approximately two week’s time.
