BBC Radio 1 Responds To Devolution With New Regional Programming

In a response to devolution, BBC Radio 1 has signed up a raft of new presenters who will host shows broadcast directly to Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. The new shows will focus on the music scene in each country and will replace Steve Lamacq’s Evening Session on Thursdays. Lamacq’s programme will still be broadcast across England.

The new programmes begin on 22 July. The Welsh show is to be hosted by Huw Stephens who, at 18, is Radio 1’s youngest-ever DJ.

Quarter one 1999 radio audience listening figures are released by RAJAR next Thursday 10 June. Details of stations’ performances will be available on Newsline on Thursday afternoon. Year on year comparisons, however, are prohibited as the data were gathered under a new methodology (see RAJAR Data Release Put Back To June Under New Methodology)
