Cellnet this week became the first mobile phone operator to launch its own ISP business. Genie Internet will be launched in March, and will enable the internet to be accessed as easily from a mobile phone as from a fixed line site.
Genie Internet plans to launch a range of services targeted at different groups. ‘Speak-mail’ will be available, which enables you to listen to emails read to you by your mobile phone.
Peter Erskine, managing director at Cellnet, commented: “The business opportunity offered by the convergence of mobile and internet technology is immense. Cellnet is in prime position to take advantage of the opportunity, as we will be able to create a profitable ISP in its own right. The wireless internet is set to create killer applications, which will take global communications onto a new level.”
