IPC To Publish One-Off Crime Title
IPC Magazines has announced that it is to publish a one-off title called Chat, Crime and Passion on 19 February. The title is to be a 60 page spin-off from Chat magazine, aimed at 18-55 year old women.
Originally, around this date a launch was planned for Crime Weekly, the latest release from Cabal Communications, Sally O’Sullivan’s publishing group. However, late last year Cabal announced that it was postponing the launch of its new title due to various factors, including the fact that it had been inundated with potential content (see Newsline).
In response to the IPC launch, a spokesperson for the group said that the new title was not a factor affecting Cabal’s decision to postpone the launch of Crime Weekly. The title is expected to launch in March-April, although a date has yet to be set. The crime market sector is likely to be distorted by IPC’s one-off title; therefore a later launch date is likely to advantage Cabal’s Crime Weekly.
Andy Sutcliffe, managing director at Cabal, is pleased that IPC effectively were going to be researching the market area for them by running the crime title. However, he told Newsline: “I have absolutely no doubt that this has been put forward by the IPC board to warn us off the crime weeklies patch.”
