Telewest Chief Quits As Flextech Merger Plans Finalised

Telewest’s chief executive has announced he is to leave the company on completion of its planned merger with Flextech next week. Tony Illsley is believed to be quitting after being given the secondary position of group managing director in the newly formed group (see Telewest And Flextech Agree Terms Of £2.26bn Merger).

The position of chief executive of the merged group will go to Flextech chief, Adam Singer, as planned, despite the fact that the company he represents is much smaller than Telewest. The final acceptance terms of the merger were announced yesterday by Telewest, with dealings in the combined group expected to commence on 19 April.

Chairman of Telewest, Cob Stenham, said: “Tony has led the transformation of Telewest into a leader in the broadband world. Whilst we are sorry to lose Tony, he has built a strong management team to confidently maintain the current business momentum.”
