Spotify launches Symbian mobile app

Music streaming service Spotify has increased its potential reach on mobile after launching an app for the Symbian operating system.

Spotify subscribers can now download the app by visiting the m.spotify.com site via their mobile handsets.

The move means that a wide variety of Nokia phones, as well as the Samsung GT-I8910 Omnia HD and the Sony Ericksson Satio, will now be able to download the app.

Spotify is already available on the iPhone and Google Android operating system but with many smartphones using Symbian this is an important step for the music-streaming service.

Gustav Söderström, director of portable solutions at Spotify, said: “The launch of Spotify’s Symbian app opens up our mobile music service to potentially millions more music fans across Europe

“This takes our mobile music offering to a totally new level.”

Spotify is available in six European countries, with plans announced to roll-out the service in the US and China next year.
