GWR Targets Ear

GWR Targets Ear

GWR is being tipped to launch a takeover bid for East Anglian Radio (EAR) after its bid for the Chiltern Radio Network last week.

The aquisition of EAR would complete GWR’s hold over independent local radio stations in middle and western England. Other aquisitions are Broadland in Norfolk, and SGR in Suffolk.

The Daily Mail and General Trust (DMGT), a 20% share holder in GWR, which looks set to sell it’s Chiltern shares to the group, is also a 20% share holder in EAR alongside EMAP Radio.

If the CRN bid proves successful, GWR would still be in a position to acquire six additional licences.
