The Radio Authority has issued some points it hopes will be taken into account by MPs when they debate the White Paper on the Future of the BBC tomorrow.
The Authority hopes that the role of the new merged Broadcasting Complaints Commission and Broadcasting Standards Council will only deal with research as the handling of complaints also falls within the Authority’s remits.
The Authority wants to see a more definite commitment to the possible separation of the BBC’s transmission services from the rest of the Corporation to increase competition.
It believes that advertising on BBC radio services should not be an option
Further clarification of what commercial broadcasting services the BBC will be allowed to own.
BBC Rado services cannot change their objectives without consulting the public, and the Authority does not want this changed.
