Code To Be Developed For Teenage Magazines

Magazine and retail representatives have agreed to develop a set of guidelines in response to Parliamentary criticism about teenage magazines.

The guidelines will be drawn up initially by editors, publishers and retailers and will seek to establish benchmarks for both editorial content and retail display of magazines for young people.

At a meeting with Home Office Minister Tom Sackville the parties emphasised the impracticality of indicating age ranges on magazine front covers. A steering group is now being formed from those represented at the meeting.
