Flextech And CWC Strike Carriage Deal

The television production company Flextech, and cable group Cable & Wireless Communications (CWC), today signed a nine-channel, analogue and digital carriage deal. The deal covers Flextech’s wholly owned channels Bravo, Challenge TV, Living and Trouble, along with UK Gold, UK Arena, UK Horizons, UK Play and UK Style, from UKTV, the BBC/Flextech joint venture.

On analogue, CWC will carry Challenge TV and Living from Flextech, and UK Gold, UK Horizons, UK Style and UK Arena from UKTV. For all of the channels except UK Gold this is a new distribution which will significantly increase their potential audiences.

On CWC’s digital platform, all of the channels outlined above will be carried, in addition to Flextech channels Bravo and Trouble, and new UKTV music and comedy channel UK Play (see Newsline).

Adam Singer, chairman of Flextech said: “I am delighted that we have reached this agreement with CWC covering both analogue and digital carriage across the Flextech and UKTV portfolio. This deal is particularly important for UKTV in that it adds valuable distribution to the new channels. As one of the UK’s largest cable operators with some 800,000 current subscribers, CWC is a key distribution partner for Flextech. We intend to work closely with CWC on the marketing of our channels to their subscribers and look forward to supporting their digital launch early next year.”
