Southern Newspapers Makes Senior Editorial Appointments
Southern Newspapers has announced the appointment of a group editor and new editors for its two largest daily titles.
Mike Woods will become group editor, Newspaper Division, on 29 June. He will become responsible for editorial concerns across 123 titles and will also be involved in the launch of new products. At the same time Ian Murray will take over as editor of The Southern Daily Echo while Neal Butterworth will become editor of The Daily Echo (Bournemouth).
Murray and Butterworth will also take charge of the respective free titles produced by the Southampton and Bournemouth publishing centres.
Latest ABC figures show circulation for The Southern Daily Echo as 59,168 and for The Daily Echo as 44,945 for the period July-December 1997. This is a slight decrease in circulation for both newspapers compared with the same period in 1996.
