US: Liberalisation Moves
Casinos in the United States may soon be able to advertise their services on television and radio, following a Supreme Court decision to support a 1997 ruling by the US Circuit Court of Appeals, which overturned federal laws banning TV and radio advertising for casino gambling. Technically, the Circuit Court ruling applies only to the nine western states within its particular jurisdiction, but it is evident that other parts of the country will be using the ruling to press for greater advertising freedom, across the whole of the US (see NOTICES 10).
