ITV Companies Submit Renewal Plans

The ITC has received 11 formal expressions of interest from ITV licensees wishing to renew their licences from 1 January 1999.

Anglia, Border, Carlton, Central, GMTV, HTV, Meridian, Tyne Tees, Ulster, Westcountry and Yorkshire have all provided the ITC with business plans and details of their proposed service to be provided over the next 10 year licence period. This information is aimed at helping the ITC to determine the value of the renewed licences.

Once the ITC has set the licence fee, the ITV companies can either accept the figure, apply on one further occasion or reject it. In the latter case, the licence will be readvertised by competitive tender.

The ITV companies who have not provided business plans – LWT, Granada, STV and Grampian – will have the opportunity to do so next year and also in 2000. The ITV licences actually expire on 31 December 2002.
