Three PC Magazines Set To Launch

Three new PC games magazines are set to enter the consumer computer titles market, two of which are geared towards providing cheats and hints for computer games.

Rapide Publishing, publishers of Ultimate PC , launched PC Strategies on 30 January and are preparing for the launch of PC Force on 27 February.

PC Strategies is a guide to “in-depth solutions, cheats and advice” on all the current PC games. The title has an initial print run of 80,000 and a cover price of £2.95. The launch is supported by an advertising campaign in a number of national magazines as well as a £10,000 retail promotion that will cover most WH Smith and John Menzies outlets.

Chris Marke, managing editor of PC Strategies said: “We are extremely confident that PC Strategies will be a massive success in the buoyant PC games market with its exciting mix of fully-mapped solutions, in-depth player guides and entertaining editorial.”

Rapide’s other venture, PC Force, is another PC games title in the vain of the company’s Ultimate PC magazine. Rapide describes the title as the only magazine designed and written by games players for games players. Its target audience is “predominantly male, aged 15-30 with a reasonably good education and a fairly high disposable income.”

It is to have a cover price of £1.95 which Rapide believes will ensure substantial sales. The first copy of PC Force goes on sale on 27 February with an initial print run of 90,000. The advertising rate is £1400.

Coinciding with the Rapide launches, at the beginning of the year IDG Publishing released a test version of a new magazine called PC Games Solutions. The test proved successful and the title is now planning to be published quarterly. PC Games Solutions is also a guide to cheats and hints to current games.

IDG is also planning the launch of yet another PC magazine on 2 April called PC Basics.
