National Press Market Round-Up – 1997

The UK national newspaper market suffered drops in both sales and readership during 1997, despite a short-lived resurgence during September as the public sought information in the aftermath of the death of Princess Diana.

January to December 1997 ABC figures for all the nationals reveal that there was a 1.4% year on year drop in sales to 27,956,851. Meanwhile, on the readership front, the January to December NRS showed that there was a drop of 3.5% to 73,473,000 for all national newspapers.
