Carlton Expected To Axe Pay-TV Channels
Carlton Communications is understood to be planning to close three of its pay-TV channels – Carlton Select, Carlton World and Carlton Kids – as part of a broader restructure of the group’s pay-TV and digital operations.
According to trade press magazine, Broadcast, Carlton’s managing director of programmes, Lord Waheed Alli, has been considering axing the stations for some time. It is understood that no new programmes have been commissioned for factual channel Carlton World or Carlton Kids, both of which broadcast through ONdigital. If the stations were to close it is likely there would be a number of redundancies across the group.
A spokesperson for Carlton Communications said that no decision has been made over the future of the channels and declined to comment further on the reports.
