Flextech Interactive Buys Ticket Agency

The internet and e-commerce division of Flextech has agreed to buy a 77.5% stake in rock and pop ticketing agency Way Ahead. The deal, worth £7.2 million, will complete the groups online entertainment guide, SceneOne, by allowing visitors to buy tickets to advertised events immediately.

The pay-TV group has been developing its SceneOne brand in recent months, with plans to launch the online service as a television channel next year. It has already been launched as a shopping service as part of Open (see Flextech Launches Shopping Services). The pay-tv group also plans to use its own channels Trouble, Bravo and Living to promote the ticket service

Brent Harman, managing director of Flextech commented on the deal: “Way Ahead adds greatly to the portfolio of services we are building around our interactive websites and channels and provides another link in Flextech’s e-commerce value chain. Way Ahead is pre-eminent in its market, is profitable and should benefit greatly from the strong growth expected in ticket-booking online.”

A recent report from Continental Research found that sales of entertainment tickets online had remained static in the last year (see UK Net Shoppers Spend £2 Billion).
