TV Round-Up – May 1999

Impacts Impacts for May 1999 were up for all audience categories across all channels. For ITV, two big Manchester United matches and coverage of the war in Kosovo are both likely to have pushed impacts up year on year. ABC1 Adults impacts on ITV were up by 7.6%.

Channel 4’s Geri documentary came up trumps during May with an audience of 4.37 million. ABC1 Adults impacts on C4 were up 6.6% and Channel 5 impacts continued to grow in all audience categories.

Costs Per Thousand In line with the boost in impacts, costs per thousand were down for all channels across all audience categories in May. ABC1 Adults costs were down by as much as 21.1% on ITV. C4 ABC1 costs dropped by 14.2% and C5 ABC1s were down 22.2%.

Viewing Once again it is only Channel 5 and the cable and satellite channels which show year on year increases in viewing share. ITV, which took a greater share than BBC 1, dropped by 0.6% points and BBC 1 fell by 0.4% points.

Channel 5 broke the 5% barrier again during May and cable and satellite channels accounted for a 14.7% across all UK TV homes.
