BSkyB Dicusses Buying Channel 5 Stake
Satellite broadcaster, BSkyB has held a meeting with Warburg Pincus to discuss the possible purchase of the latter’s stake in Channel 5. The acquisition of Warburg’s 18% holding in Channel 5 would represent BSkyB’s first move into terrestrial television.
However, Tim Allan, director of corporate communications at BSkyB, says that there was only one meeting with Warburg Pincus which was held ‘a few months ago’. Allan maintains that an acquisition is “not under active discussion” and that no further developments or discussions are expected in the near future.
Channel 5’s other stakeholders are United News & Media (29%), CLT-UFA (29%) and Pearson (24%).
