BBC Worldwide Launches Star Magazine

BBC Worldwide Launches Star Magazine

This week has seen the launch of BBC Worldwide’s new teen magazine, Star. Linking with the Live & Kicking series of the same name, the fortnightly title focuses on entertainment and celebrities of interest to 12-19 year olds.

The first issue has Sarah Michelle Geller as its cover star and features include Backstreet Boy Nick Carter and Sonya and Jamie from Eastenders. It takes its inspiration from American titles such as US Weekly and Teen People.

“Celebrity magazines for the 12-19 market are prolific in the USA but in the UK only the younger teens and the adult market have been catered for previously, despite growing numbers of young, glamourous stars in film, television, music, sport and fashion”, said publisher Lindsaye Fox.

The teenage market has seen a raft of new launches in recent months. In particular, women’s magazines, Cosmopolitan and Elle, are planning to launch teen versions of their established titles (see Launches Brief).
