M&S Signs Deal With Open
Marks & Spencer has become the latest high street retailer to join interactive shopping platform, Open. A five-year deal commencing next summer will allow subscribers to buy M&S products through their digital television sets.
The service will initially be limited to clothing and home products but will eventually allow the retailer’s entire range, including food and financial services, to be purchased. Open, which is controlled by BSkyB, launched last year and is now available in 3.8 million Sky Digital homes (see BSkyB Reports Losses As Digital Subs Reach Record High).
Jon Florsheim, managing director of Open, said:”This is an outstanding opportunity for Open, Marks & Spencer and the millions of shoppers who are looking for quality, value and convenience. Open and Marks & Spencer share a similar customer base making this an especially strong proposition. The deal will greatly enhance Open’s stong line-up of major high street retailers while bringing Marks & Spencer an e-commerce mass market unrivalled in Britain.”
