Loaded Editor Quits

IPC’s Music and Sport Division has announced the departure of Loaded man he was”, and it is now on the look-out for a replacement.

Having helped launch the title in 1993 Southwell spent four years as deputy editor before leaving to write a book about the creation of the magazine. He had been editor since 1998, during which time the mag had seen its circulation fall by 18% to 371,000 according to the latest ABC audit report (see Lads’ Mags Suffer As Bubble Begins To Burst).

Recent months have seen publishers of men’s lifestyle magazines seeking to move away from lads phenomenon which was pioneered by Loaded. Esquire recently announced a rebranding to break away from the style (see Esquire To Launch Spin-Off Sports Quarterly As Editor Continues Rebrand).
