New Rules For Press Regulation
Press self-regulation took one more step ahead yesterday with the publication of a new code of practice for newspapers and magazines, restrict- ing the use of long-distance lenses and bugging devices.
Any material gathered through bugging should not be published, the code stresses, unless it comes under the heading of ‘public interest’ – exposing a crime which will protect public health or safety.
A Government white paper on press regulation will be published later in the summer.
