BSkyB Scores Local Delivery Licence
![]()
The Independent Television Commission (ITC) has awarded BSkyB the licence to provide services through telephone and cable networks across the UK, increasing the broadcaster’s ability to compete with existing cable operators.
BSkyB applied for the licence, which will allow it to offer a full range of multi-channel television and related services, in July, and plans to roll out services via BT and Kingston Commincations’ local telecommunications networks.
A spokesperson for the company today refused to comment on Sky’s plans, saying: “The licence simply gives us options for the future.”
The award of the licence comes days after rumours that BSkyB is in talks with Channel 5 about the possibility of acquiring a stake in the company (see BSkyB To Buy Into Channel 5?).
