Potter Transforms November Cinema Admissions

Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone worked its magic, as expected, on cinema admissions during November, producing the highest number of visitors for the month since 1969, the total of 14.7 million representing a 59% year on year increase.

In terms of box office takings, the film took £9.6m in its opening weekend alone, breaking box office records. During November total takings were £34.3m. Since its release its box office total of £47m makes it the highest grossing film of the year so far and the fifth largest UK film ever.

With the another anticipated blockbuster Lord of the Rings only just out in cinemas, the Cinema Advertising Association is anticpating a good year for the medium. Admissions for the year so far already stand at 141 million, up 8% year on year and the total for the year is expected to reach an all time high of over 150 million.
