The Entertainment Channel consortium has officially decided not to take part in the bidding for Channel 5 when it goes ahead next week
The decision has come after two major blows were dealt to the company this week, with both TV-am and the Telegraph Group losing interest in the deal.
The withdrawal of the consortium leaves only one bidder for the licence, in the form of Channel 5 Holdings, which will incorporate both the investors and the concept originally associated with Five TV.
