Thames To Request C5 Re-Advertisement

Following a failed attempt by Thames to persuade the Independent Television Commission to reconsider its decision not to award the Channel 5 licence to C5 Holdings, the TV company looks set to restructure its request – asking the ITC to re-advertise the licence earlier than planned.

Time Warner, the consortium’s main backer, has assured the Commission that it will fund the new TV channel if C5 Holdings is successful in winning the licence. The ITC is looking into the possibility of broadcasting the station from different regional frequencies but if this goes ahead further plans for Channel 5 applications may not go ahead until 1995.
