The Times Announces Revamp

The Times has announced plans for a revamp that will include the launch of two new broadsheet sections.

News International claims that from 11 February The Times will contain more news, more business and more sport. A TV and radio campaign is being planned to support the launch of the revamped title, which will also include a larger main news section and an extended Times 2 section.

Editor of The Times, Peter Stothard, said: “After 11 September readers made clear to us how much they appreciated our international domestic and business news. This new design allows us to strengthen these core parts of the paper for the future – as well as introducing new opportunities for our team of writers on sports and arts.”

National newspapers as a whole saw circulation decline during 2001. However, analysis of last year’s ABC figures shows that the total circulation of the broadsheet market increased year on year for most months of 2001 (see Feature: Broads Doing Best In National News Circulation).
