The subscriber base had reached 3.62 million by December 2001, representing 15% of all households.

**”Cable Service Penetration” records the penetration of homes passed and marketed taking services offered by a cable operator, of whatever nature. “TV Penetration” records the percentage of homes passed and marketed that take TV.

It is thought that around 2 million cable TV subscribers are receiving a digital service. Although growth in the digital pay-TV market is showing signs of slowing down, the switch over from analogue to digital cable continues. Cable’s share of the digital TV market was a little over 22% by the end of the quarter, an increase of 8.4% in terms of market share year on year.

Cable’s share of the overall TV market is decreasing, however, and it went into 2002 with a share of 34.1%. During 2001 cable TV added a total of 0.19 million subscribers, compared with satellite’s 1.11 million additions and digital terrestrial television’s 0.39 million.
