Newman To Head Up Channel 4 Entertainment

Channel 4 has today confirmed the appointment of Andrew Newman as its new head of entertainment.

Newman will replace Danielle Lux, who recently stepped down following a change in the broadcaster’s entertainment commissioning structure (see Channel 4 Loses Head Of Entertainment Following Shake-Up).

Newman, who recently left Channel Five, will rejoin Channel 4 at the start of January and will report directly to the recently appointed director of television, Kevin Lygo (see Lygo Set To Return To Channel 4), who also jumped ship from Five.

Commenting on the appointment, Lygo said: “Andrew is a highly original commissioner with a real flair for the funny and the entertaining. He’s got a fantastic track record of finding and developing new comic talent and has been closely associated with many of Channel 4’s best comedy and entertainment shows of the last decade. He and this job were made for each other.”

Newman added: “Channel 4 is still the channel that puts the highest premium on pushing the envelope in entertainment with new talent and formats and I’m happy to be coming home to the channel which has showcased many of the programmes I’m most proud to have been involved with.”

The move is the latest in a long line of musical chairs triggered by Lygo’s defection to Channel 4, following Tim Gardam’s decision to leave the role for “partly personal reasons” at the end of this year (see Channel 4’s Director Of Television To Step Down).
