Aegis Appoints First Head Of Global Interactive Division

Aegis Group has appointed Nigel Morris as the first ever head of its global interactive division, in a move that reflects a return to confidence in the online advertising market.

In his new role, Morris will be responsible for developing the interactive business across 22 countries into a truly cohesive global network with common products, systems and practices, which will support Carat’s and Vizeum’s international clients.

He will continue in his existing role as vice president of Carat International and will divide his time equally between the two positions.

Commenting on his appointment, Morris said: “I am passionate about the power of digital media to connect brands with consumers and I am committed to achieving truly integrated communication across all connection points. With the strong interactive capabilities in all our key markets and the powerful resources of Aegis Media behind me I am confident that I can deliver success to our clients and to the group.”

Doug Flynn, chief executive of Aegis Group, added: “The interactive advertising and marketing industry has been showing signs of returning vigour and I am confident that Nigel will act as the catalyst that will drive interactive into becoming a significant part of Aegis’ media business.

Morris joined Aegis in 1992 as marketing director of BBJ. He became vice president of Carat International in 1999, with responsibility for some of the group’s key global clients such as Interactive International, Global Business Development and Marketing. He has also been involved in the development of Aegis Media’s interactive strategy since 1994 and has chaired the global interactive management forum for the last three years.

The latest figures from the IAB show that the internet is starting to play a more prominent role in the marketing mix, with UK online advertising spend increasing by 18.7% year on year in 2002 to almost £200 million.

After a difficult 2001, the internet is once again the fastest growing advertising medium, expanding three times faster than the industry as a whole and faster than any other marketing channel (see Online Ad Industry Bucks Recession In 2002).
