Emap Appoints Dawson To Boost Classified Offering

Emap Advertising has poached Gary Dawson from the BBC to head up its classified sales division.

Dawson, who has over 14 years experience in classified advertising, will replace Charlotte Hunt who resigned earlier this month. He will report to Emap’s head of youth Rory Brett, who commented: “Classified advertising is an important part of our business plan in 2003 and we are delighted to have Gary at the helm to drive this forward.”

Emap plans to further enhance its classified offering with the launch of a bespoke training scheme for staff and a new state of the art phone system to ensure that clients receive a “slick and professional” service.

Brett added: “The three key areas for classified growth in 2002 are fashion, travel and recruitment. We are confident that with the team and system in place, we will deliver in these areas.”

The ongoing advertising downturn has led to an increased focus on classified sales and IPC Ignite’s flagship men’s lifestyle magazine, Loaded, recently redesigned its classified section to make it more attractive for advertisers (see Loaded Revamps Classified Section For Advertisers).
