HTV Chairman Attacks Carlton & Central

The chairman of HTV, Louis Sherwood, launched an attack yesterday on Carlton and Central Television, accusing them of deliberately pushing for changes to the Broadcasting Act so they could fulfil “imperialist ambition”.

“I absolutely believe in the regional identity of ITV” says Mr Sherwood, who maintains Carlton’s claims that ITV takeovers could save over £100m a year were “wildly exaggerated”.

HTV is in opposition to proposed changes to the Act, along with Anglia and Meridian Broadcasting. The 14 ITV chairmen are due to meet the National Heritage secretary on Monday.
