Wap Usage Rises By A Third In March

GfK Internet usage via mobile phone continued to grow during March, according to the Mobile Data Association, with a new record total of 1.82 billion page impressions viewed in the UK during the month.

The rise represents an increase of 30% on the same period in 2004, and an average daily total of 58 million, according to the latest figures, continuing WAP’s impressive start to the year, with figures for the first quarter of the year topping 4.79 billion page impressions, a 24% increase on the first quarter of 2004.

The increased use of WAP echos that of text messaging, which saw a continued upward climb in March to an impressive 2.57 billion messages sent during the month. The new total represents an increase of 21% year on year and a massive 93% increase on the total sent in March 2002 (see Relentless Rise In Texts Continues Throughout March).
