Ofcom Reveals Five Bids For Norwich FM Licence

Government media watchdog, Ofcom has announced that it has received five bids for the Norwich FM Independent Radio Licence.

The new licence is expected to have a potential audience of 240,000 listeners, but will be smaller than the existing licence held by Broadland FM.

Battling for the licence will be Crown FM, a distinctive speech and music radio station for Norwich, Today FM owned by Norwich Broadcasting Ltd, and NRG FM owned by Norwich Radio Group Ltd. Lite FM and Norwich FM have also entered the race for the coveted FM licence.

The new radio slot is the latest in Ofcom’s programme of development for the nation’s radio spectrum. The regulatory body recently awarded a new 12-year licence to the Midlands News Association, providing Kidderminister and local surrounding area with ACE FM, providing locally focussed music, news and information (see Ofcom Awards Kidderminster FM Licence To ACE FM).

Last month saw Ofcom give the FM licence for Ashford in Kent to Local Ashford Radio Kent (Lark), partially owned by Kent Messenger. The station will broadcast under the name of KM-FM Ashford (see Ofcom Awards Ashford FM Licence To Kent Messenger).
