I’m A Celebrity… Gets Off To Strong Start

I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here returned to our screens last night and was easily the most watched show in its 9pm timeslot.

The first in the series brought in a peak audience of 8.5 million adults (a 40.7% share of the audience) all keen to see how David Gest and the rest would fare in the jungle, and managed an average of 8 million adults across its hour long running time.

This was slightly down on the debut episode of the last series, which brought in a peak figure of 8.8 million adults (a 39% audience share).

Viewers switching over to ITV2 at 10.30pm to continue watching the I’m A Celebrity.. goings on rapidly switched off, with the second show starting with 978,000 adult viewers and finishing with 340,000.

Earlier in the evening the two episodes of Coronation Street, on ITV1 at 7.30pm and 8.30pm, both attracted large peak audiences.

The earlier edition was seen by a peak of 10.2 million adults (a 49.5% share of the audience), whilst the 8.30pm programme attracted a peak of 9.2 million adults (a 40.6% audience share).

It was a strong night for ITV1, with Emmerdale also getting a very respectable peak audience, of 8.1 million adults (a 43% audience share) in its 7.30pm timeslot.

BBC One’s best performers on the night were the gritty soap Eastenders, which pulled in a peak audience of 8.1 million adults (a 37.3% audience share) towards the end of its half hour running time, and Spooks which fared admirably up against I’m A Celebrity…, bringing in a peak of 6.1 million adults (a 26.8% share).
