Lunchtime News War Starts Today

Following a week of launch date changes, Associated Newspapers have announced that their freesheet, London Lite will hit the streets at lunchtime today.

A few thousand copies will be available today as a trial, ready for the full launch on 30th August, when the title will have a print run of 400,000. Today’s edition is designed to test distribution and will not be carrying paid-for advertising.

News International’s rival title, thelondonpaper, is not expected to alter its launch date of 4th September.

London Lite replaces the Evening Standards’s free lunchtime copy, Standard Lite, which stopped being produced on Wednesday 23rd.
