GCap Media continues to add to its celebrity line-up of presenters for its flagship radio stations, with actor Richard E Grant becoming the newest recruit.
Grant will make his radio-presenting debut on Classic FM towards the end of July with a new programme entitled Great Movie Composers, which explores the lives and music of Hollywood’s greatest film composers.
During the course of the series, Grant will turn the spotlight on film composers Ennio Morricone, John Barry, Michael Nyman, Howard Shore, Patrick Doyle and John Williams.
Doyle is a composer familiar to Grant, having written the soundtrack to the actor’s directorial and screenwriting debut Wah-Wah, the recently released and critically acclaimed semi-autobiographical film.
As a Classic FM listener himself, the thespian has been passionate about classical music from an early age. “My parents had a large classical music record collection and played a lot of Beethoven,” he said. “I was taken to see AIDA in Rome when I was 12 and have been an opera lover ever since.”
Darren Henley, station manager at Classic FM, said: “Richard has a passion for classical music and an immense knowledge of film soundtracks, which shines through in this series. We’re thrilled to have him on Classic FM.”
Grant added: “As a long time Classic FM devotee, it is a privilege and a great pleasure to be asked to host this great new series.”
Recently GCap signed shock-rocker Alice Cooper and rock photography legend Mick Rock to present programmes on Planet Rock and Xfm respectively (see Planet Rock Signs Shock Rocker Alice Cooper).
