Big Bro Finale Crashes Out To Top Gear

Hammond's Crash Almost 5.2 million adults on average tuned in to witness Channel 4’s happy ending, as Bollywood beauty Shilpa Shetty was crowned the winner of Celebrity Big Brother 2007, with a total of 63% of the public vote.

A peak of 6.5 million adults tuned in towards the end of the programme, whilst the on-screen return of Top Gear presenter Richard Hammond proved the biggest hit with adult viewers in the timeslot.

An average of 7.2 million adults saw unseen footage of Hammond’s remarkable high speed crash on BBC Two, whilst 6.3 million chose to watch ITV1’s African-based drama, Wild At Heart and 6.5 million preferred BBC One’s Waking The Dead.

The ending the British public and Channel 4 bosses had hoped for, and the culmination of weeks of controversy (see Big Bro Blunder Signals Further Woe For C4), gave the troubled C4 a 20.1% viewing share for CBB, compared to Top Gear‘s 28%, Wild At Heart‘s 24.3% and Waking The Dead‘s 25.7%.

Dancing On Ice proved popular for ITV1 on Saturday night, with around 7.6 million adults tuning in to see celebrities slip around the rink in the programme’s first instalment (38.3%), whilst more than 5.6 million returned to the show for the week’s results (27.2%).
