ITV fails to produce network programmes in Wales

ITV1 failed to source any network programming from Wales for the second year running, according to a report from the TV producers’ trade body Pact.

The report found that no independent production in the drama, factual or light entertainment categories were sourced in Wales for any of the five main terrestrial channels – BBC One, BBC Two, ITV1, Channel 4 and Five.

ITV1 also halved the hours of network programmes commissioned from Scotland last year – only two hours of independently produced network drama came from Scotland in 2007.

However, network output from independent producers in English regions remained consistent compared with last year, according to Pact.

London dominates network production in the UK, accounting for around 64% of the total hours of output – excluding news – across the five terrestrial channels last year.

The report also revealed that only 16 hours of network programming came from Northern Ireland in 2007, the lowest of any area.
