AA Debate VAT On Press

The Advertising Association sponsored a debate on Monday night in the House of Commons. The motion was “This House believes that the imposition of VAT on the printed word will inhibit the UK’s recovery from recession”.

Arguments for the motion were made by Lord Beloff and Bill Cash MP with rousing support from the floor from Roger Holland of the Newspaper Society, Neil McCrae of the PPA, Jane Reed of News International and Bill Garland of Thomson Directories.

Despite opposition from Lord Desai of the London School Of Economics the

motion was carried resoundingly.
