The Independent Television Commission has extended the deadline which requires shareholders in Independent Television News to reduce their holdings to a maximum of 20%. The deadline for compliance is now extended by one year to 31 December, 1995.
The Secretary for National Heritage has confirmed to the ITC that ITN ownership is being considered as part of the department’s review of cross- media ownership. The new deadline will coincide with the review of the performance of ITN as the news provider for Channel 3.
This decision affects both Carlton and Granada, which each hold 36% in ITN because of last year’s mergers.
