BBC controller Bedell to join ITV

ITV Logo BBC controller of entertainment commissioning Elaine Bedell is set to join ITV as director of entertainment and comedy, replacing Paul Jackson.

The appointment is part of a wider shake-up of ITV’s commissioning team, which also includes Michael Jeremy’s promotion to the new role of director of news, regional news and current affairs.

Both new appointments will report to ITV’s director of television, channels and online Peter Fincham, according to reports.

Bedell will be responsible for entertainment and comedy commissioning across all platforms, including online and mobile.

She said: “After three very rewarding years looking after entertainment at the BBC, it’s an exciting time to be joining ITV and I’m delighted to be taking on the challenge of working with the team to find new formats and shows.”

Fincham said Bedell had “embraced the challenge of commissioning across a range of platforms to reach new and elusive viewers beyond the traditional TV audiences, something we are absolutely committed to at ITV.”

Mark Linsey will become acting controller of entertainment commissioning at the BBC until a replacement for Bedell is found.
