Children Prefer Soaps
According to a survey carried out by the European Television Magazines Association, which will appear in this week’s Radio Times, children across Europe prefer cartoons and soap operas to programmes containing violence and too much talk.
The survey carried out amongst 9 and 10 year olds across 9 European countries, show that children in Britain prefer soaps to anything else on TV, with news coming bottom. Across all of the survey countries most viewing took place between 5pm and 9pm, although children in Britain watch more TV on weekday mornings than their European counterparts, thought to be a result of C4’s Big Breakfast. The average viewing hours per week for children in the UK was 15.3 hours – 3rd behind The Netherlands (21.1 hr/wk) and Belguim (15.5 hr/wk).
