Trinity Mirror Ends Search For New Chairman

Newspaper heavyweight Trinity Mirror has appointed Sir Ian Gibson, CBE, as its new chairman, replacing Sir Victor Blank, who is to step down next month.

Blank will relinquish his post immediately after the company’s Annual General Meeting on 4 May, with Gibson taking control from that date.

The new chairman currently holds non-executive directorships at GKN and Greggs, and is the senior non-executive director at Northern Rock plc.

Commenting on his appointment, he said: “Trinity Mirror is one of the most exciting media businesses in the UK. I am delighted to be joining the Board, and bringing my experience to the table as we explore further options for growth and the creation of shareholder value.”

Gibson was most recently chairman of BPB plc, until its takeover by Saint-Gobain at the end of 2005. The new Trinity Mirror chairman has previous experience as president of Nissan Europe and senior vice president of Nissan Group.

The appointment follow’s Victor Blank’s announcement of his intention to resign at the beginning of the year, with the outgoing chairman explaining: “The management team I leave behind are first rate and are fully focused on the delivery of the options for growth.”
