DC Thomson To Increase Stake In UBC

DC Thomson is about to increase its stake in UBC, the UK’s largest independent radio production company, according to reports in the Financial Times.

The report says that with 13% the publisher, based in Redhill in Surrey, would become the largest outside investor in UBC.

In March this year DC Thomson purchased Aberdeen Journals (giving it the Aberdeen based Press, Journal and Evening Express newspapers) from the Daily Mail and General Trust for £123 million in cash.

DC Thomson made pre-tax profits of £43.2 million in the year to March 2005, on sales of £162.7 million, which the Financial Times report says was mainly because of income of £22.8 million from its investments.

UBC recently unveiled new technology which allows mobile phone users to download music direct to their handsets from digital radio stations.
