Heseltine Wants Channel 5 Delay

The trade and industry secretary, Michael Heseltine, has written to the Department of National Heritage calling for a delay in the decision on the approval of Channel 5.

Heseltine’s letter highlighted the issue which most worries and affects his department; the future of digital broadcasting. Heseltine has asked for the decision to be postponed until after the government review of cross-media ownership has been completed. This is because the DTI is in favour of reserving all available frequencies for the development of digital television services.

The Department of National Heritage said that his viewpoint will be taken into account along with other submissions they have received.
