Dame Shirley Quits LBC
LBC Radio, defeated in its attempts to take the INR3 station when it was outbid by three other groups, now finds itself without a chairman. Dame Shirley Porter left on Tuesday morning; there will not be a replacement before October, when LBC loses its licence to London News Radio. Dame Shirley’s departure is said to be because she has run out of ideas on how to keep the station alive.
An LBC spokesman told MediaTel that services would continue as normal; however a report in today’s Evening Standard claims that the two networks, Newstalk and Talkback could be shut down immediately. London News Radio would not be able to mount a service at such short notice, so LBC’s wavelengths could become silent.
